Jones-Hamer Carno

I do not know very much about my Jones family at all.  They originated from Carno Montgomeryshire and the men were builders and carpenters.   Sarah Jones c1873 married William Hamer on 13th November 1896 so William and Sarah were my great-grandparents.

1869 Ann Jones born School House, Carno, Montgomeryshire known to the family as Annie and she died aged 88 at Minffordd, Carno on the 19th October 1957.  In 1949 she was at her sister’s Sarah’s funeral.  Annie was buried with her parents Richard and Sarah and Sister Jane (Scott) at Carno Church.

1873 Sarah my great-grandmother born at Carno and married William Hamer 13th November 1896 at Peniel Chapel Carno.  She and William had eight children four boys and four girls.  Her husband William Hamer was a Cattle Drover working on his own account.  They moved to Oswestry living in Victoria Street, Arundel Road, and Roft Street.  Sarah died at Roft Street Oswestry on 8th April 1949 and both she and William have a plaque in Carno Church although I believe they were buried in Oswestry (details to follow).

1874 Edward Meredith Jones was born Minffordd Carno.

1875 Jane Jones was born Minffordd.  She died in May 1916; place of death was Toronto Canada.  Jane James John Scott (1876-1954), amarket gardener, in Toxeth Park Liverpool in 1900.  Her body was brought back to Wales and she is buried with her parents and her sister Annie at Carno Church.

1879 Richard Owen Jones born Minffordd died 7th October 1888 and is buried at Carno Church.  In 1908 his brother Richard was also buried in the same grave.

1881 Catherine Jones born Minffordd and was living with her parents on the 1901 census at 3 Minffordd.  Her occupation was Dress maker “own account”.

1883 Abram Jones born Minffordd he is shown on the 1901 census as living with his parents at 3 Minffordd, his occupation Carpenter.  He died 13th April 1960 and is buried at Carno Church with a lady called Margaret??  No further details.

1884 John Jones born Minffordd and living with his parents on the 1901 census.  He died aged 25 on the 12th August 1908, his occupation had been a Carpenter and he is buried with his brother Richard at Carno Church.

1889 Thomas Owen Jones born Minffordd in 1901 he was living with his parents
